BBC Philharmonic Orchestra - Copland and Rachmaninoff

Kathryn Rudge joins BBC Philharmonic Principal Guest Conductor, Ben Gernon, for a live BBC Radio 3 broadcast.

We open this afternoon with Old American Songs: set 2 from Copland. The composer himself wrote, "Everyone seemed to enjoy singing and hearing the first set of folk song settings so much that I decided to arrange a second group of five."

Closing this afternoon’s live broadcast is Rachmaninoff’s mercurial Second Symphony with its hauntingly beautiful Adagio and impassioned finale.

Studio Concert - Application for tickets opens 11th - 17th June 2018 https://www.bbc.co.uk/events/eb8gfx
