I joined tenor Jesús León for a Valentine’s Day Concert with Conductor Phillipe Bach and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall on 14th February 2015.
We enjoyed rehearsing at The Friary, Everton and then we were off to Liverpool Philharmonic Hall! It was my first concert there since the £13.8 million refurbishment of the hall began in 2014 which includes work on the 1930s Grade II listed building's auditorium, front of house spaces, and backstage dressing rooms. An new exciting smaller-scale venue has also been created, named as the Music Room, that will be used for performances and learning programmes; there are also backstage production facilities, warm-up rooms, office accommodation, a music score library etc. and this will all be fully completed in Summer 2015... it's looking brilliant!
We had a great time performing for a sold out Valentine's Day audience with a programme that included Bizet's ‘Habanera’ from Carmen, Mascagni's ‘Intermezzo’ from Cavalleria Rusticana and 'Cherry Duet' from L'amico Fritz Saint-Saëns' ‘Mon Coeur s’ouvre à ta voix’ from Samson et Dalila, Donizetti Una Furtive Lagrima Tchaikovsky ‘Rose Adagio’ from Sleeping Beauty. The evening finished with 'If I loved you' from Carousel, 'Tea for Two' and 'Lets Call the Whole Thing off!'
