BBC RADIO 3 "IN THE HOUSE" THE PALACE OF WESTMINSTER

On 3rd November 2015 I was invited by BBC Radio 3 to perform at the Palace of Westminster for “BBC Radio 3 in The House”. It was so exciting entering this historic building... and squishing my concert dress through the security x-ray machine for the first time at the Houses of Parliament!

There was a lovely reception celebrating the diversity of BBC Radio 3 as controller Alan Davey introduced a new season of events and programmes including World on 3 BBC Introducing and Jazz on 3 with performances from artist Ngawang Lodup and fellow BBC New Generation artist Laura Jurd. I performed with pianist Christopher Glynn and it was a wonderful experience to sing in such an historic venue with a select number of artists. It was brilliant to meet fellow professionals from the industry and to see MPs there too. Tamsin Grieg performed a Shakespearian excerpt and read an inspiring passage from "The Book of Forgiving" by Desmond and Mpho Tutu. There was also a specially written poem read to music played by BBC orchestra players by "The Verb's" Ian McMillan. Have a browse through Words and Music for more poems and prose read by leading actors, interspersed with classical music.

It was a really memorable evening and my first engagement as a BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist.

“We were made to enjoy music, to enjoy beautiful sunsets, to enjoy looking at the billows of the sea and to be thrilled with a rose that is bedecked with dew… Human beings are actually created for the transcendent, for the sublime, for the beautiful, for the truthful... and all of us are given the task of trying to make this world a little more hospitable to these beautiful things.”
 Desmond Tutu
