Orchestra of Opera North Concert – Distant Shores

Kathryn performs Elgar’s Sea Pictures with the Orchestra of Opera North and Conductor Ben Gernon in Huddersfield Town Hall.
The programme will include
Mozart  Symphony No. 31 in D Major ‘Paris’ K.297/300a
Elgar    Sea Pictures Op. 37
Dvorak   Symphony No. 8 in G Major
“With our second foray into the symphonic works of Antonin Dvorák, Ben Gernon, former Dudamel Fellow with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, makes his Opera North debut with the 8th Symphony, a work with a bright and optimistic feel, unlike many of Dvorák’s other compositions.

The programme also includes Mozart’s much-loved Symphony No. 31, ‘Paris’ before we introduce our guest vocalist for the evening, BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist, Kathryn Rudge. Elgar’s Sea Pictures, a setting of five poems set to music for mezzo-soprano, were premiered in 1899 by Clara Butt dressed as a mermaid! We don’t anticipate that Kathryn Rudge will appear in the same guise, but she is sure to enchant either way.”
