Bizet's 'Carmen' at Glastonbury Abbey Orchestra in a Field

Bizet's 'Carmen' at Glastonbury Abbey Orchestra in a Field

Kathryn will perform at ‘Orchestra in a Field’ in the title role of Carmen in a concert performance of Bizet’s famous opera in the wonderful setting of Glastonbury Abbey in Somerset.

Orchestra in a Field  is unique event and the inspiration of the award winning Conductor Charles Hazlewood.

“People associate orchestras with stuffy concert halls, and a lot of people are alienated by that image. But take the music out of that setting, and it’s a revelation,” says Hazlewood.“Imagine a brightly lit stage in the middle of a field at night, and the sheer power and beauty of a symphony orchestra at full tilt, plus soloists and a big chorus – it’s an amazing spectacle – not something you’ll forget in a hurry!”

While the festival has at its heart large-scale, outdoor orchestral music, it will also involve a diverse range of different musical styles and influences. Alongside classical performances such as Carmen with a symphony orchestra, international star performers as well as a children’s chorus made from local primary schools and Romeo & Juliet, there will also be a performance of Mike Oldfield’s ‘Tubular Bells’ (performed by The All Star Collective featuring musicians Will Gregory from Goldfrapp and Adrian Utley from Portishead). There will be an appearance by The Scrapheap Orchestra as seen on BBC TV as well as the first full-scale performance by the British Paraorchestra who are part of the London 2012 Festival Programme.
