“Rossini’s comic masterpiece – a prequel to the story of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro – returns to the London Coliseum in Jonathan Miller’s elegant and much-loved production. Now in its twelfth revival, and described as a “national institution” by the Sunday Telegraph, this Tiepolo-inspired staging makes brilliant interplay between Italian commedia dell’arte and Whitehall farce. Transporting audiences back to 18th century Seville, this sunny adventure follows the escapades of the barber Figaro as he assists Count Almaviva to prise the beautiful yet feisty Rosina away from her lecherous guardian Dr Bartolo.”
British mezzo-soprano and former ENO Harewood Artist Kathryn Rudge sings her first Rosina. She made her professional opera debut in a “star performance” (The Financial Times) as Cherubino in Fiona Shaw’s ENO production of The Marriage of Figaro at ENO in 2011 and was featured as the ‘Rising Star of Classical Music’ in The Times in 2012.
