Susan Chilcott Scholarship

Kathryn is delighted to have been awarded a prestigious 2011 Susan Chilcott Scholarship. The Scholarships, which are administered by the Royal Philharmonic Society, were established in memory of Susan Chilcott who was one of the outstanding singers of her generation and who died from cancer in 2003 at the age of 40.

One of the patrons of the Fund is world famous tenor Placido Domingo. This year 62 singers applied for scholarships, with the strongest applicants asked to audition before a distinguished panel: Neal Davies (chair), Pamela Bullock, Susan Bullock, Iain Burnside, Ian Rosenblatt and Mollie Petrie (Susan Chilcott’s teacher) – nine singers in total received awards for 2011.

“It is a delight to be able to help these nine, fine, very different singers. These are tough times to be starting a career. We hope that the help being offered in Sue’s name will empower these young artists and put air under their wings. We congratulate them all and will follow their progress with the greatest interest.” Iain Burnside, Chair of the Susan Chilcott Scholarship
