Part of Summer at Snape
Britten Sinfonia II Concert
Sat 26 June, 3pm & 7pm
3pm: Pay what you can / 7pm: £25
Snape Maltings Concert Hall
Music by Purcell and Elgar, and first performances of pieces by featured composer Tansy Davies, John Woolrich, and Colin Matthews’ new arrangement of a Britten song.
Following Purcell’s Chaconne, a work Britten loved, John Woolrich’s piece for trumpet and chamber orchestra is inspired by Purcell’s The Fairy-Queen. Colin Matthews has arranged three songs from Britten’s 1947 song cycle Charm of Lullabies, transcribing the piano part for string orchestra, giving additional colour to these characterful settings. One of Elgar’s most regularly performed pieces, Serenade is full of youthful charm and lyricism, reasons for its enduring appeal.
