Kathryn will perform with the Fron Male Voice Choir and Mersey Wave Choir in the beautiful concert room at St. George’s Hall, Liverpool to commemorate the Centenary of the Battle of the Somme.

    The Royal British Legion in association with Mersey Wave Music present a concert “The Somme and Beyond” with guest opera star Kathryn Rudge, the “Voices of the Valley” Male Voice Choir and the Mersey Wave Choir. The concert will commemorate the centenary year of the Battle of the Somme and will take place in the beautiful setting of Liverpool’s St. George’s Hall Concert Room.

    The evening will pay a special tribute to all those who fought and tragically lost their lives at the Battle of the Somme and there will be a programme of music including uplifting war time songs from the era and poignant readings all culminating in a rousing Proms style finale.

    Liverpool born opera singer Kathryn Rudge is fast becoming one of the leading young mezzo sopranos of her generation. She is currently a BBC New Generation Artist (2015-17) and has also been nominated in the Young Artist category of the Royal Philharmonic Society awards 2016. In 2011 Kathryn graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music and in the same year secured opera roles with English National Opera, Glyndebourne Touring and Opera North. She has performed with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra on numerous occasions. Performance highlights in Liverpool include singing at the Capital of Culture opening Ceremony at the Liverpool Echo Arena and singing the names of the 96 Hillsborough victims at Liverpool Cathedral in Michael Nyman’s Hillsborough Symphony. Kathryn’s debut CD “Loves Old Sweet Song” was released last year. On the opera stage in 2015 Kathryn performed the leading roles of Dorabella in Garsington Opera’s production of the “Cosi Fan Tutte” and Rosina at the London Coliseum in English National Opera’s production of ‘The Barber of Seville”.

    The “Voices of the Valley” Froncysyllte Male Voice Choir are still going strong 69 years after their formation and have established themselves internationally as one of the leading Welsh male voice choirs, singing in Welsh and English. In 2006 the Fron Choir won a record contract with Universal Music Classics and Jazz. Its first release, Voices of the Valley, went Gold a week after its launch and was nominated for NS&I Album of the Year at The Classical Brit Awards 2007. Voices of the Valley – Encore followed in 2007 and Voices of the Valley – Home in 2008. The latter was nominated for a Classical BRIT in 2009. The Fron’s fourth release on Universal, Voices of the Valley – Memory Lane, was released in November 2009. This was also nominated for NS&I Album of the Year. In 2011 the choir released Voices of the Valley – The Ultimate Collection. The Choir are led by Music Director Leigh Mason.

    Mersey Wave Music was founded in 2013 by local music director and pianist Jason Ellis and mezzo-soprano Kathryn Rudge. Based in South Liverpool, Mersey Wave Music now has over 70 members from across Liverpool and Halton who participate in weekly music groups and classes. As well as receiving music education members are also invited to participate and perform in Mersey Wave Concerts and community events throughout the year. Mersey Wave Music organises regular live music events and concerts and also provide music for special events, local organisations and fundraises for charities and good causes. The Mersey Wave choir are lead by Music Director Jason Ellis.
