THE TWO RIVERS FESTIVAL 2014
Liverpool-born mezzo soprano, Kathryn Rudge, makes a welcome return to the festival series. Having left the RNCM in 2011 as one of its brightest prospects, she has fulfilled all her promise with a flourishing professional career. Featured as The Times Rising Star of Classical Music 2012, she made her debut with English National Opera in a production of The Marriage of Figaro directed by Fiona Shaw. She has gone on to perform major roles with Opera North and Glyndebourne Touring Opera. Kathryn is joined by another talented young performer, the South African pianist, James Baillieu – a much sought after chamber musician, soloist and accompanist. Their programme encompasses songs by the two great masters of German Lieder, Schubert and Schumann, alongside two English composers from the last century; Roger Quilter and Frank Bridge. Each offers a contrasting lyrical voice, yet remains true to their national tradition.
